Former Deputy CIO and CISO joins top cybersecurity experts to assess risks to the public sector
SAN MATEO, Calif., July 9, 2018 – Exabeam, the next-gen security information and event management company, today announced the appointment of U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) veteran, Steve Grewal, to its Federal Advisory Board. The board, established by Exabeam in 2016, is led by cybersecurity experts experienced in government sector, to assist agencies within the federal and state governments with handling modern cyberthreats. This includes improving the detection of or response to malicious threats to technology assets and systems.
Grewal previously served as the deputy chief information officer (CIO) for the GSA, where he led all IT responsibilities. In addition, he served as a senior advisor to the administrator, deputy administrator and other senior GSA officials on all technology matters. Prior to his appointment at GSA, Grewal served as acting CIO deputy CIO and chief technology officer (CTO) for the U.S. Department of Education (ED).

Grewal has also served at the chief information security officer (CISO) at ED. As CISO for a Cabinet-level Department, he was responsible for implementing the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) requirements including developing, maintaining and continually enhancing a nationwide cybersecurity program. He has held other senior leadership and technical posts at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).

Prior to entering federal service, Grewal spent several years in private industry including Ernst & Young, MicroStrategy, and a series of startups. He has an extensive background in strategic planning, technology innovation, program management, enterprise architecture, governance and cybersecurity in the public and private sectors.
Some of the Exabeam solutions that Grewal will provide advisory services for include Exabeam Threat Hunter for Federal Agencies, which enables analysts to proactively search for and respond to adversaries on the network, or insider threats. Other topics include adhering to the National Insider Threat Policy (NITP), established by former President Barack Obama in 2012.
